If you want your make up to look the absolute best that it can you need to start at the very beginning. Your skin. If you skin is good everything else will fall into place. If you have dry flaky skin nothing will sit properly.
I have dry skin so I keep my skin hydrated all the time. I also use a combination of a vitamin E face wash and a gentle ex-foliater. I love the vitamin E range from The Body Shop and lately I have really enjoyed Eucerin’s Dermo Purifyer scrub. I don’t use the scrub everyday as it can be rather harsh on the skin using a facial scrub everyday.
It’s so important to wash your face everyday. Even more so if you wear make up everyday. Cleaning your face is one of the best things you can do for your skin. Once the skin is clean, especially for dry skin, a moisturiser is a necessity. There are a number of brilliant day and night creams on the market. Finding the right one for you might take a while but trust me when you find the right one, your skin will know.
Like I said above, The Body Shop’s vitamin E range is brilliant and very hydrating. L’oreal have a fantastic range of skin care products too. As well as Eucerin, Bobbi Brown and Clarins.
Foundation wise, recently I have discovered L’oreal’s Infallible foundations. They are brilliant. I have the Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation and the 24hour-matte. I love them. They last all day on my skin, the don’t move around when you apply highlighters/bronzes/blushes on top of them. With my dry skin they don’t emphasize the dryness. All in all they are really good foundations at a reasonable price.
I am obsessed with lip balms/lip ices. By obsessed I mean, can’t go anywhere without something. I have probably tried every form of lip balm out there. Some work for a short while then stop. I have spent hundreds of rands on lip products that are supposedly the best on the market, and still, I don’t find them satisfying. The only thing I use on my lips now is Bepanthen. Yup, the nappy rash cream and stuff you put on new tattoos. It is the best most soothing and moisturising “lip balm” out there. I even use it on my skin if I go through really dry patches. I often use it over lipstick and it adds the most amazing sheen/gloss to it and doesn’t make my lips even drier.
From all the dying and bleaching my hair has really suffered. It’s better than it used to be but still very dry. A lot of people swear by coconut oil. Does absolutely nothing for me. I need something hydrating. Which is why I love the Wella Hydrating mask. It makes my hair feel so silky soft. They also have a shampoo and conditioner in the same range that I am dying to try. But for those suffering with dry hair, ditch the coconut oil that doesn’t work and try this. You won’t be sorry.
Moroccan oil. Need I say more. It’s the best product out there. It adds hydration and sheen and doesn’t leave your hair feeling oily.
These are my favourite products I can’t live without. If you try them let me know how they work for you, and if you have anything else that is great let me know what they are.
